TEST PREPARATION

Follow these simple steps to help ensure accurate results and a smooth testing experience.
  • Please follow the preparation instructions provided by the healthcare professional who ordered your test.
  • If you take medication, ask your healthcare provider whether you should take it on the morning of your appointment.
  • Stay hydrated. Drinking water before a blood test is encouraged and may help make your blood draw easier.
  • If fasting is required, plain water is still permitted unless you have been specifically instructed otherwise.
  • Unsure about your preparation? Send us a copy of your requisition and our team can help clarify the instructions.

Please bring your current medication information and any relevant medical documentation to your appointment.

Obtain a printout from your pharmacist.

For DNA testing that requires a buccal (cheek) swab:

  • Do not eat for 2 hours before your appointment.
  • During this time, drink water only.
  • Avoid gum, candy, mints, smoking, and vaping before your sample is collected.
  • If you have eaten or had anything other than water within the 2-hour period, please inform our team before your test.
  • Fasting is not required for prenatal blood testing.
  • You may eat and drink normally before your appointment.
  • Staying well hydrated is recommended.
  • Follow any additional instructions provided by your healthcare professional for your specific test.
  • Government-issued identification is required for all DNA and prenatal testing.
  • Please bring your identification with you to your appointment.
  • If a photograph is required as part of your testing process, this will be clearly indicated in your confirmation letter.
  • Your confirmation letter will provide any additional documentation or requirements specific to your appointment.

For forensic or deceased-family-member DNA testing, please provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • The coroner’s or medical examiner’s contact information, if available.
  • The city where the family member passed away.
  • Any additional information provided by the coroner, hospital, funeral home, or other authority that may assist with coordinating the testing.

Having this information available can help our team determine the appropriate testing process and coordinate with the relevant authorities when required.

If you are unsure about how to prepare, contact the Mjay Sante team before your appointment. We are happy to help.
